Nimba Inspectorate disposes large quantities of expired goods confiscated in Nimba county

Sanniquellie City, Nimba County – The Ministry of Commerce and Industry’s Inspectorate in Nimba County Friday September 20, 2024 disposed of a large quantity of expired goods, seized over a three-month period during inspections in the county.

These goods, including assorted food items, beverages, and medical supplies, value at USD$39,000 were confiscated from various businesses operating in Nimba County.

Speaking at the dispposure and distroying, Mr. Billy Flehn, Inspector of Commerce, Trade and Industry said the inspection is aimed at protecting the public from unsafe and expired products in the county.

Inspector Flehn noted that the initiative is part of an ongoing effort by the Ministry of Commerce to ensure the health and safety of consumers by regularly inspecting and removing expired products from the Liberian market.

“Our inspections will help remove expired, substandard, or unsafe goods from the market and ensure that our consumers are not exposed to harmful products” Mr. Billy Flehn, Nimba County Inspector of Commerce added.

He explains that expired goods like food and medicine can pose significant health risks to consumers as such removing and disposing of them will prevent our citizens from the health threat attached to it.

Asserting further, Mr. Flehn told our reporter that these activities underscore the government’s commitment to her ARREST Agenda and enforce trade regulations and consumer safety laws, encouraging businesses to operate within legal frameworks of laws and regulations.

The expired assorted goods confiscated were set at ablaze in the presence of local authorities and representatives from the Liberia National Police, Liberia Immigration Service, Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency and the Environmental Protection Agency respectively.

Meanwhile, the commerce Inspectorate of Nimba County has ordered the closure of BANJAK Inc, a frozen food dealer in Ganta City, Nimba County for regulatory violations.

Inspector Flehn was not specific on the particular laws and regulations violated BANJAK Inc but said they will do everything possible to enforce the laws and regulations for the safety of the citizens. Up to now, BANJAK Inc remain closed until they can comply with the inspection regulations.
